What is Kief?
Cannabis kief, otherwise known as dry sift, pollen, or simply “kief”, is the tiny crystals on the cannabis plant which contain a potent concentration of powerful cannabinoids and terpenes which provide the ultimate cannabis experience. Kief is created from trichomes that grown on the cannabis flower’s surface. These tiny hairs or protrusions contain a variety of active ingredients including THC and CBD that can be released when the flower is ground, smoked, or vaporized. However, kief is the product of collected trichomes that have been separated from the flower and tightly compressed into a concentrated form.
Kief is most commonly used to make hash, oils, tinctures and even edibles such as baked goods and candies. It is also a popular ingredient in smoking products such as pipes and bongs as it provides a much more intense cannabis experience compared to smoking the cannabis flower alone.
Kief can be produced through a variety of methods, but the most common way involves a three tiered grinder with a kief catcher at the bottom. This grinder works by spinning the flower along with one or two steel screens which separate the trichomes from the rest of the plant material. As the flower is ground, the trichomes are collected and stored in the bottom compartment of the grinder.
Overall, cannabis kief is one of the most potent forms of cannabis available, allowing users to fully enjoy the flavors and effects of the plant in their most concentrated form. The ease of use, cost effectiveness, and convenience of kief make it an attractive option for consumers. Whether you’re using it to make edibles, hash, or an intense smoking experience, cannabis kief is sure to please!
